About magnet links
Magnet links are URI-format pointers to BitTorrent content. Unlike .torrent files, a magnet link contains only the content's hash and metadata — the BitTorrent client looks up the actual peers via DHT (distributed hash table) and starts downloading. Every BitTorrent client supports them: qBittorrent, Transmission, Deluge, Vuze, BiglyBT, μTorrent, libtorrent-based mobile clients, and so on.
This generator just wraps the link in a QR. We don't validate the hash or fetch metadata — the QR is just text in, text out.
Legitimate uses
Plenty of completely legal content uses magnet links: Linux distributions, public-domain video archives, academic datasets (e.g. Common Crawl, ImageNet), open-source software bundles, the Internet Archive's torrent mirror. We don't endorse using QR codes to share infringing content; we don't moderate what you encode either, because we never see it.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which apps scan magnet links?
On desktop: any BitTorrent client registered as the magnet: URI handler picks them up after the QR scanner copies to clipboard. On mobile: most clients including LibreTorrent (Android), iTransmission, Vuze remote, BiglyBT, qBittorrent.
How long can a magnet link be?
A minimal magnet link with just the info hash is ~60 characters. With multiple trackers, web seeds, and a display name it can hit 500-1000 characters — still within QR capacity, but pushing into denser versions that need more print area.
Why not just share a .torrent file?
Magnet links are smaller and don't depend on a centralized tracker. They're also easier to share over text — and now over QR.
Will this work for private trackers?
Magnet links from private trackers usually include a passkey embedded in the tracker URL parameter. If you encode that QR and share it publicly, anyone who scans it can download from the private tracker as you. Treat it like a password.
Can I encode multiple magnet links?
Magnet URIs support multiple xt= parameters (the same hash in different formats) but not multiple distinct items. For multiple items use a torrent collection or Bencode-format manifest.
Does this download anything?
No. Abundera QR is fully client-side and never makes outbound requests. The QR just contains the magnet URI as text — the actual download happens in your BitTorrent client after you scan.
